The Mystery Midnight Rustle

Last night, just after we had gone to bed, both Milja and I lay awake listening to a strange rustling sound coming from one of the corners of our room. Milja instantly feared the worst and was worried that her bags in the wardrobe were being munched on by a rat. I was not sure what was making the noise, and I decided to call for backup (I wasn't up for diving in our wardrobe after a rat myself). I went to get Megan from Minna and Heikki's room, who were asleep, but knocking on the door made Megan bark (apologies to M&H). Back in our room, Megan refused to have a sniff in the cupboard, but Heikki came with a torch. I couldn't find anything in the cupboard, but Minna said that she'd heard a strange noise earlier from this end of the house. The mystery was wide open.

So back to bed we went, and the noise started again. I had the torch still, so I shone it around the room. I spotted a beetle/bug thing buzzing around (we've had trouble with these specific things before when about a million came in through an open window one evening - Raija came to our aid and helped us remove each one).

One flick of the light switch and it headed for its death along with its (maybe) relatives in the lamp. That was easy.

Mystery solved.
