Stroke of luck and a 1-1 draw

Yesterday after school Matias went to Harrison (and Sean)'s house. Milja and I left at just before 7pm to collect him and at the same time get some food shopping done.

As we arrived, Sean jokingly asked if I wanted to watch some "soccer" (he has DStv digital TV and I have mentioned before that we should watch some games soon) so he scrolled around some channels while we waited for Matias to get ready. I noticed suddenly that Finland were up next on one channel, playing their Euro 2008 Qualifier with Portugal. It was cleared with Sean that I could stay and watch it.

So Milja left to the shop, and in the meantime I was given Harrison's dinner (!) and settled down to watch the match. It was a good game, Finland played really well against the 4th placed team from the World Cup. It was gutting to see two well-placed headers missed by Sami Hyypia in the first 20 mins, but I was happy to see a brilliant piece of play that put the Finns 1-0 up.

Milja returned, the boys did some work, the chef, Justice, made three extra dinners so everyone was fed, and in the second half Milja and Sean started to work on Sean's 6-page English essay that was due today.

Of course, Portugal equalised and then went down to ten men, and of course Finland couldn't muster enough class to win the game, but it was a good, spontaneous evening. I will be going round again soon (with a pre-arranged gift of beer) to watch some more "soccer".
